Dr. Israel is the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Innovation Officer at Complete Care, the largest post-acute care provider in New Jersey, with facilities in 7 additional states. She is a practicing geriatrician and palliative care physician.
Dr. Israel completed her medical school training at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY. She completed an internship and residency in internal medicine as well as a fellowship in Geriatrics and Adult Development at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. She is the co-author of the textbook “Medicine: A Competency Based Companion”, and has been a contributing writer to the New York Times and other lay publications. Her areas of clinical interest include geriatrics, dementia and behavioral management, palliative care, end of life care and doctor-patient communication. Her work for RWJ Barnabas Health in building a Goals of Care Conversation Team was featured in the Harvard Business Review, and her work in palliative care and geriatrics programing during COVID has been featured nationally in the Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) and Healthtrust podcasts.
In her previous roles Dr. Israel was the Senior Vice President of Geriatrics and Palliative Care at RWJBarnabas Health and the Corporate Director and Founder of the James and Sharon Maida Geriatrics Institute at RWJBarnabas Health. Dr. Israel chaired the RWJBarnabas Health Geriatrics Collaborative and the RWJBarnabas Health Palliative Care Collaborative. She also served as the Interim Chairman of Medicine at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey.
Dr. Israel is a board member at the New Jersey Goals of Care Coalition, Springpoint Senior Living, and the Visiting Nurse Association of New Jersey. She is also a member of the Vising Nurse Associations’ Hospice and Palliative Care Advisory Board. She is a Steering Committee Member for the Conversations of Your Life Taskforce in New Jersey.
Dr. Israel was a previous Harvard Macy Institute in Medical Education and a Palliative Care Education and Practice Scholar at Harvard University Medical School. She has been a faculty member at the Drexel University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA and The Icahn School of Medicine (formerly The Mount Sinai School of Medicine) in New York, NY. She is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and the recipient of the Oksana Korzenowski Award for Clinical Excellence and the Golden Apple Teaching Award from Drexel University College of Medicine. She is the past recipient of the Hospice Medical Director of the Year Award from the NJ Hospice and Palliative Care Nursing Association. She has been recognized by her peers as a NJ Magazine best doctor, Inside NJ Magazine Best Doctor and Castle Connelly Top Physician for Geriatrics, Palliative Medicine, and Cancer Care.
